Women supporting Women in Durham Tees Valley

On Tuesday 3rd March 2020 staff and participants from Durham tees Valley CRC came together to celebrate International Womens Day.  The event was held in the Durham Community Hub with the theme ‘Each for Equal’, promoting female equality.

Following a buffet lunch and an introductory talk on the origins of International Womens Day, around 30 female participants heard a reading by a former service user, now team volunteer Heather about inspirational women – based on Madonna.  There was then a musical interlude with uplifting songs performed by Chris Riley, a PSO with the team.

The group then broke out to engage in therapeutic activities such as rug making, positive affirmations and mindfulness facilitated by staff from the Just for Women Centre. Just For Women is a non-profit organisation based in Stanley, Co. Durham, they were established in 2011, helping women to transform their lives after dealing with abuse, mental ill-health and social isolation.

The day concluded with an empowering relaxation session and each participant was given a card with a positive affirmation along with a gift bag containing toiletries and sweets.
